The research on the rate of gealth problem children¢¥s appearance and their educational demands


Abstract
The purpose of this research is intended for providing the data of health problem childern¢¥s educational projects through the inquiry into rate of their appearance, and the analysis of their living realities, educational demands.
The rate of health problem children¢¥s appearance was investigated, making a object of study the 160,376 students in elementary schools in Daegu, and their human items were investigated, too. The questionaire for the inquiry into the analysis of their living realities, educational demands was carried out through 355 elementary school students who attended pediatric OPD of 4 general hospitals in Daegu. Its conclusions run as follows:
1.The rate of health problem children¢¥s appearance
First, the distribution of this has turned out that boys are higher than girls, and low grade students, high grade students. About 20 diseases such as allergy, epilepsy, child neurosis, weakness, congential heart diseases, respiratory diseases(especially asthma), tumor, blood diseases, etc. amounted to 77% of the whole.
Second, the rate of health problem children¢¥s appearance is 0.193%, so special educational measures must be necessary to about 19¡­20 students per 1,000 elementary school students owing to chronic diseases and delicate constitution.
Third, applying the above rate to the whole 226,877 elementary school students in Daegu, it is estimated that there are about 439 health problem children in Daegu now in 1993 and their number is practically much more than this.
2.The investigation of the educational demands of health problem children.
First, among their problems, learning problem is the most serious because of the gaps of class by diseases but their wills that would accomplish learning are estimated positively.
Second, 78.6% out of health problem children responding to the question "What is the most important and necessary thing now?" answered "becoming health" So, more than anything else, the care and instruction for recovering health should be taken.
Third, there are differences according to the grade and the name of diagnosed desease in their living and educational demands. So it seems to be desirable that their educational measures should be performed by the grade and the name of diagnosed disease.
Fourth, as it appears that the teachers in charge have a great influence on the health problem children through all grades, it is demanded that the teachers in charge who has the first relation with children in education should cultivate the professional knowledges on chronic disease and understand it broadly.
